Former Liverpool Tactical Analyst Roderick van der Ham has been named as Head of Analysis for the first team at Borussia Dortmund.
Van der Ham was the last member of Arne Slot’s staff to leave Liverpool when he departed this summer. He had arrived at Anfield in November, having previously worked with Slot at Feyenoord, where he had been Senior First Team Video Analyst.
He is also a TGG Member and has his own profile on the TGG website.
Van der Ham admitted that the chance to join Dortmund had come out of the blue. Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “An unexpected but massive opportunity, one that came just as we were thinking about completely different things as a family.
“Looking forward to being part of this exciting project in front of the Gelbe Wand. I’m sure we are going to have fun, but with a focus on hard work and improving every day.”
Van der Ham has spent most of his career so far in his native Netherlands. He has worked in video analysis for NAC Breda, RKC Waalwijk, Heracles Almelo and Feyenoord as well as the Dutch national Under-19 team.
English influence at Dortmund
While German Match Analyst Nico Hurst has been promoted from the Academy to the first team this summer, the coaching set-up at the club has also had a big English influence in recent years.
Steve Rands was appointed First Team Coach-Analyst in February 2025. He spent seven years as Head of Analysis at Manchester City and also worked with Steve Cooper at Swansea, Nottingham Forest and Leicester and is currently overseeing a revamp of Dortmund’s Analysis department.
Fellow Englishman Lewis Evans has been the club’s Data Scientist for Match Analysis since the start of last season, having previously worked for Swansea and Blackburn, and in January, Englishman Alex Clapham left his role as the club’s First Team Coach.
