Richard Montague has left his role as Director of Football at Swansea City after just seven months following an “internal review of football operations” at the club.
Montague joined the Swans in February from Notts County and was described as “the outstanding candidate” because of his “deep understanding of data analytics and his first-hand knowledge of the football industry and operations.”

The move had reunited him with Head Coach Luke Williams, with whom he had worked for 18 months at Notts County. However, Williams was sacked just a few days after Montague was appointed.
Montague then led the search for Williams’ successor, before the club made caretaker Alan Sheehan permanent. This summer Swansea brought in 12 new signings, spending more than in any transfer window since their relegation from the Premier League in 2018, and Sheehan has regularly praised Adam Worth, the Global Head of Recruitment and Analytics for his contribution.
Worth will now take charge of recruitment and strategy at the club, with Chief Executive Tom Gorringe overseeing contract negotiations.
Announcing Montague’s exit, co-owners Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen said: “This was not a decision taken lightly, and we are extremely grateful for Richard’s work during a busy summer transfer window.
“However, it is vital that everyone at the club is aligned with our shared strategy. We are confident in the team we have in place, both on and off the pitch, to continue driving the club forward.”
Swansea have had five Directors of Football in little more than six years, with Leon Britton, Mark Allen, Josh Marsh, Paul Watson and Montague.
