Sporting Director Rob Clarkson has left Carlisle United after just six months following their relegation to the National League.
Clarkson was appointed as Carlisle’s first Sporting Director in October 2024 following two years as Talent ID IDP Lead for The Football Association and five as a First Team Scout at Rangers.
At the time, Florida-based Owner and Chairman Tom Piatak praised Clarkson’s “extensive experience in talent identification and performance analysis, combined with a data-driven approach” and said he was “the ideal individual to drive our football operations forward.”
However, a 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham Town on Saturday saw Carlisle drop out of the Football League for the first time in 20 years and now Clarkson has gone.
In a short statement, Carlisle said: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Rob for his service and wish him well for the future. A further update will be provided in due course.”
The ownership have said they will now initiate a “full, top-to-bottom review” of all operations, including performance and recruitment. Talks with Manager Mark Hughes about whether he will stay on to lead the club in the fifth tier were said to be “ongoing and positive”.
