CRAIG ROBERTS is stepping down as Bournemouth's Medical Director at the end of this month after eight years in the role.

The South African joined the Cherries in November 2015 having spent more than 15 years working in rugby union, first as a Team Physician with the Sharks in Durban and then as Team Doctor for the Springboks national side.

Bournemouth Chief Executive Neill Blake said: "I'd like to thank Doc for everything he has given us over the years. We’re very grateful for what he has helped us achieve on the field, and we’ll miss having his personality around the training ground.

“I speak for everybody at the club when I wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”

In July, Bournemouth appointed Jay Mellette as their new Director of Performance, “overseeing all player medical and performance management services”.

The American arrived from the Vegas Golden Knights ice hockey team, where he has been Director of Sports Performance for the last six years. Like Bournemouth, he Golden Knights are owned by Bill Foley.

The Cherries also have a Head of Performance in Alastair Harris, who joined with manager Scott Parker in June 2021.
