JAY MELLETTE has joined Bournemouth as Director of Performance, “overseeing all player medical and performance management services”.

Mellette arrives from the Vegas Golden Knights ice hockey team, where he has been Director of Sports Performance for the last six years. Like Bournemouth, the Golden Knights are owned by Bill Foley and won the Stanley Cup for the first time this year.

Prior to joining the franchise, Mellette was Director of Performance Medicine for Cirque du Soleil, the world’s leading circus producer, for 13 years .

He “held the responsibility to oversee the care, prevention, and rehabilitation services for over 1,300 athletes and 45 full time staff… and was instrumental in building a culture of conditioning, creating the concussion protocols, developing an injury prevention program portfolio and delivering quality clinical outcomes and analysis,” Bournemouth said.

Mellette has also been Head Athletic Trainer for the Colorado Rapids in the MLS and won the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and National Defense Service Medal when he was in the United States Air Force.

Bournemouth already have a Head of Performance in Alastair Harris, who joined with Scott Parker in June 2021, and a Head of Sports Medicine in Dr Craig Roberts, who has been with the club since 2015.
