Technical Director David Weir has left Brighton after seven years as the club seek “new leadership and direction.”

The former Scotland international joined the Seagulls in July 2018 as Pathway Development Manager, before being promoted to Assistant Technical Director and then, in May 2022, to Technical Director.

Brighton Chairman Tony Bloom said: “David has served our club very well but we now wish to refresh our technical area with new leadership and direction. I’d like to thank David for everything he has done for us, and to wish him well for the future”.

Chief Executive and Deputy Chairman Paul Barber added: “I have greatly enjoyed working with David over the past eight years and have appreciated his support and hard work throughout this period. I wish David all the best going forward.”

Brighton said Barber would “continue to oversee all technical areas of the club, working with the existing senior team until David’s successor is confirmed.”

Weir succeeded Dan Ashworth as Technical Director and the club finished sixth, 11th and eighth in his three full seasons at the helm. That sixth-placed finish in 2022/23 was Brighton’s best ever top-flight finish.

The club have an Assistant Technical Director in Mike Cave, who joined from Fulham in November 2022.
