Jamie Russell has returned to Salford City as Academy Manager – four years after leaving the same role.
Russell held the position from 2017 to 2020 before becoming Head of Academy Recruitment at West Brom and then Head of Football at Swindon.
Since then, Salford have had their Academy upgraded to Category Three status, in the summer of 2023.
Russell said: “I was here when the Academy started and it was Category Four. Now I’m just really excited to being part of a Category Three Academy and looking to strive forward.
“I think the most important thing here at Salford is that there is a pathway, and there’s nothing more we want than a local boy from Salford to come through the system, or be in the system, and get recognised at men’s first team level.”
Arriving with Russell from Swindon is Danny Rose, who joins as Head of Academy Coaching. Rose is a former Manchester United Academy player and reserves captain, who made nearly 600 senior appearances for clubs including Oxford United, Northampton Town, Portsmouth and Swindon.
He has been Youth Development Phase Lead Coach at Swindon since January.
And Chris McCann has joined as Lead Youth Development Phase coach, having played for clubs including Burnley, Wigan, Atlanta United and Burton Albion.
Chris Casper had been overseeing Salford’s Academy in his role as Head of Football Development, but left to become Academy Manager at Burnley last month.
