Rangers Head of Performance Tom Taylor has left after 14 months to become Lead Physical Performance Coach at Chelsea.
Taylor will report into Director of Performance Bryce Cavanagh, who joined from the Football Association in October 2023, and lead Chelsea’s Physical Performance team.
The club advertised the role in September and said the successful candidate’s “core focus” would be “to deliver physical performance programmes creating players who can train intensely, recover quickly, compete physically with the best and repeat the demands of the competition schedule.”
The advert added: “The role will deliver physical programmes on a group and individual level, having a high aptitude and understanding of football requirements and the ability to deliver at a world-class level both on the pitch and in the gym.”
Prior to working at Rangers, Taylor was Athletic Development and Reconditioning Coach at Brighton for more than four years. During this time he worked alongside Chelsea’s current Co-Sporting Director Paul Winstanley, who was Brighton’s Head of Recruitment at the time.
Taylor has also been Head of Fitness at Hearts and First Team Fitness Coach at West Ham. At Chelsea, he will be based at Stamford Bridge and the Cobham Training Ground, while also occasionally traveling with the first-team squad to matches.
