Chris Ramsey and Kalam Mooniaruck have been appointed as new Phase Leads in England’s national men’s youth team set-up.
Ramsey, who was Head Coach of the England Under-20 team in the late 1990s, will lead the England 18s to 20s age group, while Moonariuk is leaving his role as West Ham United’s Head of Coaching and Player Development to lead the 15s to 17s group.
Ramsey, who was a guest on episode 33 of the TGG podcast in 2021, is hugely experienced and well-respected in the game. In his previous spell with England, not only did he lead the Under-20 side to the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1999, he was also their Assistant Coach at the 2013 World Cup and Assistant Coach for the Under-16s at the UEFA European Under-16 Championship in 2000.
Ramsey also scouted for the senior England men’s team during Kevin Keegan’s reign as manager and was awarded an MBE for his services to football and diversity in sport in 2019.
In the club game, he has managed in the Premier League with a spell as First Team Head Coach at QPR, where he was also Head of Player Development and Technical Director in his nine-year stay at the club.
Ramsey also spent nearly nine years at Spurs, where he was First Team Coach for six months and also worked as Assistant Academy Manager and Senior Professional Development Phase Coach. He also had spells at Luton Town and Barnet while he worked in the USA for almost four years, three of which were spent as Head Coach of Charleston Battery.
The highlight of his playing career was appearing in the 1983 FA Cup final for Brighton and Hove Albion against Manchester United which went to a replay, which he missed because of an injury he suffered in the original game. A right-back, Ramsey also played for Swindon Town and Southend United.
Mooniaruck had been with West Ham for almost seven years. He joined the club as Head of Academy Coach Development and was promoted to his last role in July 2024.

He has worked for the Football Association (FA) before, joining them initially in 2009. In almost 10 years there, he moved up to become Youth Coach Educator, helping youth coaches at clubs around the country to develop their own skills.
As a player, he was a winger and was in Norwich City’s youth team and then joined Manchester United, but did not make a senior appearance for either club. He played non-league football for the likes of Braintree Town and Cambridge City and also won two international caps for Mauritius.
‘Outstanding experiences’ with the FA
Meanwhile, Greg Lincoln is to leave his Head Coach role across England development teams.
Lincoln, who began his coaching career with Arsenal, has been with the FA since November 2021, working across several development teams as a Head Coach and Assistant.
He said: “After four incredible seasons as a national head coach, I’m grateful for the privilege of contributing to the development of so many talented players.
“The journey has been filled with outstanding experiences, including winning the UEFA U19 European Championship, completing my UEFA Pro Licence and seeing players progress through the pathway and go on to make their full international debuts.
“These milestones have shaped me both personally and professionally, and I now look forward to utilising these experiences as I explore new coaching and leadership opportunities within the game.”
