Dominic Price has been appointed as the new Technical Director of West Brom and will begin his role imminently.
Price left Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv FC two weeks ago, having been their Technical Director for the previous two-and-a-half years, during which time they won two Israeli Premier League titles.
At West Brom, Price will oversee Academy, loans, pathways, medical, sports science, analysis and technology, with Director of Football Operations Ian Pearce overseeing first-team recruitment.
Price’s reports will be Director of Medical Tony Strudwick, Head of Technical Scouting Dan Sale, Head of Performance Analysis Dave Stewart, Head of Loans and Pathways Chris Brunt and Academy Manager Richard Stevens.
The original plan had been for both Price and Pearce to report into President Andrew Nestor, who had planned the leadership restructure and who was in charge of “all club functions.”
However, the American – who appeared on Episode #67 of the TGG Podcast – exited the club by mutual consent at the start of this month.
With Price heavily involved in squad balance and planning, his work will dovetail closely with that of Pearce.
As TGG has previously reported, more and more clubs are splitting the traditional Sporting Director role. Some, like Crystal Palace, have opted for a Sporting Director (Matt Hobbs) and Assistant Sporting Director (Ben Roberts).
Some, like Everton and Wolves, have appointed leadership teams, while others, such as Brighton, have a Sporting Director (Jason Ayto) and Technical Director (Mike Cave).
Price was First Team Performance Analyst at Blackpool from 2020 to 2022 and then First Team Post Match Analyst at Liverpool in 2022/23 before moving to Maccabi Tel Aviv in July 2023. The club’s Head Coach at the time, former Liverpool player Robbie Keane, had been influential in his appointment.
West Brom are expected to officially announce Price’s appointment this week and he will begin work at the club shortly after that.
