New Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou has appointed four of his former backroom staff at Spurs to work with him at the City Ground.

Nick Montgomery (pictured above), Mile Jedinak and Sergio Raimundo all join as Assistant Coaches and Rob Burch arrives as Goalkeeping Coach – the same roles they had under Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is the first time that Postecoglou has retained his staff, as in all of his previous roles he has deliberately named new assistants – making him a rarity among his fellow managers.

Speaking after joining Spurs in the summer of 2023, he said: “I have always worked with different staff, I’m not the person who takes staff with me. That’s my challenge – if I’m going to have longevity in this game I have to make sure my message is always relevant.

“By bringing in new people, it forces me as to make that message relevant to the new person coming in the door. I have always gone for smart young guys and I take pride in seeing these guys develop.”

Montgomery, who is our guest in Episode 71 of the TGG podcast, made more than 350 appearances as a midfielder for Sheffield United before finishing his career in Australia’s A-League. He played more than 100 times for Central Coast Mariners and started his coaching career at the club – first as Assistant Coach and then as Head Coach, leading the club to the title in 2023.

Later that year, he returned to the UK as Head Coach of Scottish Premiership club Hibernian, before moving to Spurs the following summer.

Former midfielder Jedinak won 79 caps for Australia and was made captain by then national team coach Postecoglou for the 2014 World Cup finals. He also represented the Socceroos at the finals in 2010 and 2018. In his club career, he played more than 150 games for Crystal Palace and nearly 100 for Aston Villa.

His coaching career started in the Academy at Villa, where he went on to become Loan Development Coach before joining Postecoglou at Spurs in the summer of 2023.

Raimundo worked with Montgomery at both Central Coast and Hibernian and has also coached in various other countries, including Senegal, Brazil, Canada and Austria.

Burch’s first coaching roles were at his former club Spurs, where he was Head of Academy Goalkeepers and also coached the Under-18s alongside Scott Parker. He also worked with the club’s first-team coaching staff and first-team goalkeepers. Burch then worked with the England Under-16 and Under-20 teams before being named Fulham’s Goalkeeping Coach in 2019 under Parker. He returned to Spurs under Postecoglou in the summer of 2023.

As a goalkeeper, he failed to make a senior appearance at Spurs but had a series of loan spells before a permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday. He made most of his career appearances for Lincoln City and finished his career at Notts County.
