James King has been appointed Director of Football Operations at Arsenal and begins his new role tomorrow (November 11th).
The move marks a return to the club for King, who has been General Counsel at the PFA since May 2022. He previously worked for the Gunners from 2016 to 2022 – first as Legal Counsel and then Senior Legal Counsel.
In his first two years with the North London club, King supported Partnerships, Business Development, Retail, Marketing, Premium Sales, Ticketing and Community. He then moved over to join the Football Operations side of the club, where he worked on all footballing matters at London Colney and Hale End for four years.
In 2020, King was made Senior Legal Counsel and subsequently headed the Football Operations legal unit, working with the Men’s First Team, Men’s Academy, Women’s First Team and Women’s Academy. He was also a club representative on The FA’s Legal & Governance group for Women’s football.
In his new role, he will focus on legal and contractual issues and replaces Richard Garlick, who was promoted to Arsenal Managing Director at the end of last season.
