Burnley have appointed Nick Meace as their Head of Performance after a summer of change at Turf Moor.

Meace replaces Damien Roden, who left in February, and joins the club after a close season in which a new managerial team led by Head Coach Nicky Hayen arrived.

Following a brief playing career with Wigan, Meace returned to the game in 2014 as Head of Medical at Bury.

He had a short spell as Academy Physiotherapist at Liverpool and then spent a season as Head of Performance at Portsmouth. Meace returned to Wigan in the summer of 2017 as Head of Medical, but after three-and-a-half years he moved on to Stoke as Head of Medical and Performance.

After a short stint as Consultant Physiotherapist at Wolves, he joined Oxford in November 2024 as Head of Performance before leaving this summer.

Meace has also worked with Chelsea captain Reece James (pictured above) with the aim of “developing his robustness and maximising his availability”.

Praise from World Cup star

During his time at Stoke, Meace was praised by Australia and then Stoke centre-half Harry Souttar for helping him to recover from a serious injury in time to play in the 2022 World Cup finals.

“I can’t thank him enough for what he’s done for me getting me back fit,” Souttar, now at Leicester, told The Sentinel at the time.

Potters team-mates also thanked Meace for his work with them, with Josh Laurent saying he was “one of the greatest” and Tyrese Campbell saying physios “don’t come much better”.
