WHAT IS THE ROLE?

You will lead the development process for goalkeepers (GK) across the pathway in the boy’s Academy along with being the GK Coach for the U18s squad. This will include supporting the development of the GK curriculum with the Head of Academy Coaching and managing its implementation. The role will also involve the scheduling of GK coaches to ensure GK coverage across the pathway.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

You will be supporting the design of the GK curriculum with the Head of Academy Coaching and managing the coaching coverage of the staff across the pathway. In addition, you will attend fixtures and training across the pathway and attend squad selection meetings to manage the match minutes of the GK’s. You will also need to be available to act as a cover coach across all academy age groups as needed and allow other GK coaches to observe each other and take other age groups as development opportunities.

A major part of the role will involve being part of the Under 18s coaching staff working with the group every session / game (weekends) for both home and away games. Training will usually be in the mornings 4 times a week with a game at the weekend. Flexibility will be needed based on the needs of the programme as this may change throughout the season. Additionally, time management will be important as being available to lead GK coach development and programme management is crucial as this is more than just a coaching role.

You will be responsible for leading the recruitment and onboarding process for all GK’s across the pathway. In addition, you will need to line manage the GK’s and work with the Coach Development Manager to ensure CPDs (Continuing Professional Development) are being delivered. You will also need to attend coach development meetings to provide feedback on coach observations and plan all CPD.

IS THIS YOU?

The ideal candidate for this role should have the ability to demonstrate a strong level of technical and tactical football knowledge and game understanding. They should also have good leadership and interpersonal skills.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • UEFA A Licence
  • FA GK Licence
  • Coaching experience within an Academy or International Youth Coaching environment at relevant age groups
  • Experience within individual player development in a coaching setting
  • Experience in developing a phase or team in an Academy setting
