Six staff have left Manchester United along with Head Coach Ruben Amorim, who was sacked on Monday.

The six are:

  • Carlos Fernandes (Assistant): Amorim’s right-hand man. The 30-year-old worked as a coach at Benfica’s Academy when Amorim was a player in the first team and then became his Assistant at Braga, Casa Pia and Sporting Lisbon. Was responsible for United’s set pieces.
  • Jorge Vital (Goalkeeper Coach): First worked with Amorim at Braga, when he was a coach and Amorim a player. Moved with him to Sporting in 2020.
  • Adelio Candido (First Team Coach): Was U15s coach at Casa Pia and rose up the ranks to work with Amorim for the first team. Went with him to Braga, Sporting and then united. Only 29.
  • Emanuel Ferro (First Team Coach, pictured above with Amorim): Worked at Benfica’s Academy from 2006 and 2009, when Amorim was a player there. Reunited with him at Sporting, when Amorim became Head Coach.
  • Paulo Barreira (Physical Performance Coach): Previously a Physio at Liverpool and Arsenal. Worked in Saudi Arabia and the UAE before linking up with Amorim at Sporting and then United.
  • Eduardo Rosalino (Performance Analyst): Worked for Sporting Lisbon for almost 12 years, before moving with Amorim to United in November 2024.

Writing on Instagram yesterday (January 7th), Fernandes said: “Thank you to the world-class players I had the privilege to coach and to learn from.

“Thank you to the staff members who showed true support. Thank you to the fans who stood by us.

“In the end, working at a football club of this dimension doesn’t just test your knowledge – it reveals character.

“A special chapter in my life. Proud to have served as Assistant Manager of Manchester United.”

BBC Sport reported that United paid £9.25m to Sporting to release Amorim, Fernandes, Vital and Ferro from their contracts, while they will have to pay another £10m to £12m to the Head Coach and his staff for the remainder of their contracts.

As TGG reported on Monday, Under-18s Head Coach Darren Fletcher has taken interim charge of United following Amorim’s sacking, assisted by U21s Lead Travis Binnion and PDP coach Alan Wright.
