Five coaches have been sacked by Wolves along with Head Coach Gary O’Neil.
The 41-year-old was fired today following the 2-1 home Premier League defeat by Ipswich Town, which left Wolves four points adrift of safety. O’Neil had been in charge of the side for 16 months and kept them in the Premier League in 2023/24.
Five of his assistants have now gone too:
- Tim Jenkins (First Team Coach): Worked with O’Neil for Liverpool U23s and then Bournemouth. Background as an analyst, having worked for Prozone and Liverpool (as Academy Head of Analysis). Went on to become Head of Individual Development at Liverpool.
- Shaun Derry (Assistant): Played alongside O’Neil at Portsmouth. Was U23s Head Coach at Crystal Palace before being promoted to first-team coach. Joined O’Neil at Wolves in August 2023.
- Neil Cutler (Goalkeeper Coach): Made more than 200 appearances as a player and then coached at Walsall, West Brom, Aston Villa and Wolves.
- Ian Burchnall (First Team Coach): Joined Wolves in September 2023. Began coaching at 22 at the University of Leeds and has managed Viking in Norway, Ostersunds in Sweden and Notts County and Forest Green in England. Had six months as assistant with Anderlecht before joining Wolves.
- Woody Dewar (Coach-Analyst): Also joined the club in September 2023, arriving from Watford, where he was Lead First Team Analyst and Scouting Co-Ordinator. Has also worked for Tottenham, as Head of Academy Analysis, and Manchester City, as U18s Analyst.
Wolves sacked their Set Piece Coach, Jack Wilson, after just seven Premier League games. Their Set Piece performance has actually got worse since then, with the side conceding 16 goals from set pieces, which is the highest number in the Premier League.
