Joe Ferrelly is leaving Sport Republic after three years to become the Head of Football Insights at Tottenham Hotspur, TGG can reveal.

Ferrelly oversaw data and research across Sport Republic’s multi-club portfolio of clubs, which includes Southampton, Valenciennes in France and Göztepe in Turkey.

He is currently working a notice period and will start at Spurs in mid-August, with Sport Republic now advertising for his replacement. At Tottenham he will report into Frederik Leth, the club’s Head of Football Insights and Strategy, and lead data insights provision end to end – spanning football systems, research and decision science.

The team is also expanding around him as part of a wider build-out of the department. Spurs are currently advertising on TGG for a Lead Data Scientist to replace Sasha Satikova, who is joining Ian Graham’s advisory firm Ludonautics – as well as for a Full Stack Engineer for a newly formed Football Systems team building the internal tools used by analysts, scouts, coaches, the medical team and football leadership.

Tottenham’s data operation sits within the Football Insights and Strategy department and provides data-derived insights across the club, from the first team to the Academy and including both the men’s and women’s sides.

Announcing his Sport Republic exit last week, Ferrelly said: “I will be leaving Southampton in a couple of months to take up a new exciting opportunity with another club.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the club and the Sport Republic group as a whole, seeing data insights have a real impact across all three clubs and working with scouts, analysts, coaches and directors with a real desire to improve their processes with data.”

Ferrelly joined Sport Republic in June 2023 from Everton, where he spent four years, initially as a Data Analyst. He had earlier been a Recruitment Analyst at Huddersfield Town and holds a Master’s in Statistics from Nottingham University.
