Peter Cavanagh has returned to Everton as Under-21s Assistant as part of an Academy coaching revamp following Leighton Baines’ promotion to first-team duties.

Cavanagh worked at Everton’s Academy from 2015 to 2022, latterly as their Youth Development Phase Lead, before joining Steven Schumacher as First Team Coach at Plymouth and then Stoke City.

Now he has returned to work with the U21s, meaning he is working with some of the players he previously coached in the YDP.

Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “It’s been nearly two weeks since I came back to a place I know really well. Tonight was my first experience of a home game as part of the U21 coaching group.

“Z Cars and win to advance to the semi-finals of the Senior Cup. It’s great seeing players I remember as young boys performing as young men.”

Cavanagh has replaced Keith Southern, who has been appointed U18s Lead following Baines’ promotion to work with David Moyes’ senior staff in January.
