Danny Cadamarteri has left his role as Head of Individual Development at Sheffield United’s Academy.

The former Blades striker replaced Rhys Carr in the job in June 2022, having rejoined the club as a Position-Specific Striker Coach under Carr in the Academy in November 2020.

Writing on LinkedIn, Cadamarteri said he was “sad” to have left the role.

He added: “The productivity of the Academy has been through the roof and I feel proud to have contributed with my team of position specific coaches to the development of so many players through the Academy.”

He said this individual development had helped the club to achieve “multiple debuts into Sheffield United’s first team, multiple players have successful [Football] League and National League loans, multiple players bought for substantial amounts and now forging careers across all levels from Premier League to National League and the MLS, multiple league titles won for both U18s & U21s over my five-year period”.

He added: “I’ve built an outstanding team of Individual Coaches that have taken the Academy players to the next step of their development of preparing them for first team football and hopefully they can continue to support the players’ progress and journeys moving forwards.”

Cadamarteri managed a team of position-specific coaches and two of those have also now left the club. Striker Coach Lee Tomlin, the former Peterborough United player, has exited after seven months, while Defender Coach Tom Clarke, who made more than 200 appearances for Preston, has gone after 14 months.

Cadamarteri said on X that the reason that he, Tomlin and Clarke were going was “in no way a result of anything relating to the new ownership or management of Sheffield United”.

He added: “We all wish the club success this season.”

After a playing career in which he made nearly 400 senior appearances for clubs including Everton, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town, Cadamarteri moved into coaching – earning his first work at Sheffield Wednesday as an Academy Professional Development Phase (PDP) Coach for the Under-18s and also a UEFA A Licence Position Specific Lead Coach.

He left Hillsborough after just over three years to move to Burnley, where he was PDP Manager for their Under-18s for three-and-a-half years before joining Sheffield United.

His predecessor, Carr, is now Assistant Head Coach at Bristol Rovers, and has also worked for Wolves, the Football Association of Ireland and Coventry City since leaving Bramall Lane.

He delivered one of the most popular presentations at a TGG Webinar when he spoke at our Individual Development Webinar in 2021.
