Former Wolves Sporting Director Scott Sellars has been appointed as the new Senior Pathway to Professional and Under-21s Coach at Birmingham City.
The 60-year-old is hugely experienced, having been Academy Manager at Manchester City, as well as Head of Academy, Technical Director and Sporting Director during eight years with Wolves.
His most recent job was as Sporting Director at Al Jazira in the UAE Pro League. In his new role, Sellars will lead the Pathway to Professional phase at Birmingham, overseeing the development of players from U15s to U21s, while taking direct responsibility for the U21s.
In this role he replaces Mark Kennedy, who left the club in February after eight months for personal reasons.
Birmingham said Sellars would “provide strategic oversight of the player development programme, ensuring a clear and aligned pathway exists from Academy football through to senior competition.”
A central part of his role will be driving the delivery of Individual Learning Plans across the PDP, “ensuring each player’s programme is tailored and embedded within daily practice.”
He will oversee player reviews, succession planning and career development across the pathway and lead the multi-disciplinary team from U15s to U21s, bringing together coaching, performance and support staff.
Scott's appointment represents an important step in revolutionising our player development pathway.

The former Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United winger will also be a member of the club’s Academy Technical Board, contributing to the continued evolution of the club’s Academy Performance Plan.
The move reunites Sellars with Birmingham’s Academy Technical Director Mike Rigg, with whom he worked at Manchester City and Al Jazira.
Rigg said: “Scott’s appointment represents an important step in revolutionising our player development pathway. He brings an exceptional blend of coaching expertise, leadership experience and a proven understanding of how to develop players for the demands of professional football.
“Throughout his career he has worked at the highest levels of academy football, with Manchester City and most recently with Wolverhampton Wanderers, helping to build environments where young players can thrive.
“His experience leading U21 programmes and creating clear development pathways makes him an outstanding addition to our Academy structure. We are delighted to welcome him to the club and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our Academy staff and players.”
