SAM STANTON is replacing Tom Stockwell as Head of Scouting Operations at Southampton.

Stockwell is leaving the club after almost 12 years to join Nottingham Forest. Southampton owners Sport Republic, who took over the club in January 2022, have moved quickly to appoint Stanton as his replacement.

He will head up scouting for both of Sport Republic's clubs, as they also own Goztepe SK in Turkey.

Stanton joined Saints from Bristol City, where he was Head of Analysis, in January 2021. He started as Player Insights Analyst Lead and was then promoted to Lead Scout for the South of the UK. Last Autumn he was interviewed for the Forest Green Director of Football job but ended up turning it down.

Sport Republic have a number of other key roles to fill at the end of this season. Academy Manager Matt Hale is leaving after a decade, Lead Data Scientist Alex Kleyn is exiting to join Manchester United and Head of Youth Recruitment Dan Rice is leaving to become Head of Emerging Talent for Everton.

Head of Senior Recruitment Joe Shields left in January to become Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent at Chelsea. Matt Crocker stepped down as Director of Football in March and will be replaced by Manchester City Academy Director Jason Wilcox in the summer.
