NICK DAVIES, the former Norwich City Head of Sports Science, is returning to West Ham to work under David Moyes.

The appointment is expected to be announced tomorrow. TGG does not know the exact job title at this stage, nor how it will impact the position of Gary Lewin, the current Head of Sports Science and Medicine.

Two weeks ago, Moyes said he was close to appointing a new Head of Fitness to replace Miljenko Rak, who had been sacked along with Slaven Bilic on November 6th.

Davies is hugely experienced, having been Head of Sports Science at Charlton, West Ham, Birmingham and Norwich. He was with the Hammers from June 2007 to June 2009.

Lewin, the former England Head Physio, has been Head of Sports Science and Medical Services at the club since June this year. West Ham’s fitness has been the subject of much debate over the last couple of seasons.

They had the second highest number of significant injuries and days lost to injury last season and are bottom of the league for distance covered and number of sprints this season.

Before being sacked last month, Bilic said: “We are not flying and the stats don’t lie, but they don’t tell you everything.”

Davies left Norwich in June, after four years at the club, following the arrival of Sporting Director Stuart Webber. During his time with the Canaries he worked with Alan Irvine, who is now Moyes’ assistant with the Hammers.
