LIVERPOOL have appointed Dr Andreas Schlumberger as their new Head of Recovery and Performance.

Manager Jurgen Klopp worked with Schlumberger for four seasons at Borussia Dortmund and tried, unsuccessfully, to bring him to Liverpool in 2017. The appointment was announced to staff via email yesterday.

Schlumberger, 54, left Dortmund in 2015 to join Bayern Munich - where he was the boss of current Liverpool Head of Fitness and Conditioning Andreas Kornmayer - and has also worked for the German Football Association.

For the last year, the highly-experienced practitioner has worked for Schalke 04 as Head of Fitness and Prevention.

In a statement on their website, Liverpool described the Head of Recovery and Performance position as a “newly-created specialist role” that will “support and work in close collaboration with the current performance, medical and rehabilitation leadership.”

In September, TGG reported that Liverpool’s Rehabilitation and Performance Manager Philipp Jacobsen was leaving the club at the end of 2020/21.

The German, who joined in June 2018, is serving the final season of his contract in his homeland.
