Alek Gross: Worked for Southampton for a decade

FORMER Southampton Head of Sport Science Alek Gross has been appointed Head of Performance at Nottingham Forest.

Gross left the Saints at the end of last season after a decade’s service. Forest already have a Head of Physical Performance in David Tivey, who has been in post since November 2021, and a Head of Medical and Performance in Arnaldo Abrantes, who has been at the City Ground since August 2020.

It is not clear what, if any, impact Gross’s appointment will have on either of them.

Gross joined Southampton in June 2013 as Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach and was promoted to Head of Sports Science in January 2014. He went on to combine his role with that of first-team fitness coach in the summer of 2016 following the appointment of Claude Puel as manager.

Prior to this, Gross had worked for Leeds Rhinos rugby league team for six years, winning the Super League title in three consecutive seasons between 2007 and 2009.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “ Great to be starting a new position as Head of Performance at Nottingham Forest. I had a great 10 years at Southampton and would like to wish them well for the future.

“It also means my board role with Saints Foundation has unfortunately come to an end. I wish them well.”
