FORMER Watford Technical Director Filippo Giraldi has been appointed Sporting Director of Nottingham Forest.

The Midlands side, who currently sit bottom of the Premier League, already have a Director of Football in Kiriakos Dourekas.

However, it is understood that Italian Giraldi has been brought in to evaluate the football side of the business at the City Ground. He spent nine years in total with Watford, originally as Chief Scout from 2012 before becoming Technical Director in 2014.

During that time they had five consecutive years in the top-flight, achieved their highest points total in the Premier League in 2018/19 and reached the 2019 FA Cup Final.

He had previously spent 11 years in Italy as Director of Football at AC Prato and as Chief Scout and Head of Academy at Brescia.

However, he took a large portion of the blame for Watford’s relegation from the Premier League in 2019/20 and departed after their 3-2 win over Stoke on November 4th 2020.

Afterwards he admitted: “We (Watford) are not a club that leaves the coach alone and lets him get on with the job. I’m there every day, the owner is there every day - he doesn’t watch every training session but he’s there, so you can see him and speak with him.”
