BRISTOL CITY have split their Head of Medical Performance role in two following the exit of Dave Rennie and promoted Derrick Bonsu.

The highly-experienced Rennie oversaw both the medical and performance departments, but was sacked along with manager Nigel Pearson after two-and-a-half years at the club.

Now the Robins have reverted to a Head of Performance and Head of Medical structure. Derrick Bonsu, the Head of Strength and Conditioning, has been promoted to Head of Performance after nine-and-a-half years with the club.

Bonsu, who is also Lead Sport Scientist with the Ghana men’s national team, will have responsibility for “the delivery of our sports science and strength and conditioning programmes,” Bristol City said.

He will be supported by Andy Kavanagh, who is joining as Head of Sport Science on December 4th. Kavanagh, who is First Team Physical Performance with the Blues, replaces Patrick Orme, who has joined Swansea City as Head of Sports Science.

Meanwhile, Lead Physio Andrew Proctor is stepping up to become interim Head of Medical while a search for a permanent appointment takes place. Proctor has been with the club since June 2018.
