DR IMTIAZ AHMAD is leaving QPR after seven years to become Head of Sports Medicine at Crystal Palace.

Ahmad joined the Hoops as Club Doctor in November 2016 and was promoted to Head of Medical in July 2018 and then Head of Medicine and Performance in June 2022.

The latter role was created after Head of Performance Daniel Bernardin left to set up his own business, with Ahmad explaining: “We are bringing the medical and sports science departments under the same umbrella. This will streamline matters and, ultimately, bring more accountability.”

Yesterday’s 1-0 away win at Bristol City marked Ahmad’s final game with the club. Writing on Twitter, he said: “Top performance from our players, staff & fans!

“What a way to finish seven years at QPR. Great memories & friendships from Harlington to the excellent new training facilities at Heston. Wishing everyone the best for the rest of the season.”

Ahmad is the latest senior departure from QPR, with Director of Football Les Ferdinand having exited in June 2023 and Technical Director Chris Ramsey this January.

At Crystal Palace he will replace Zaf Iqbal, who is leaving the Eagles after eight-and-a-half years to become Head of Sports Medicine at Arsenal.
