Villa’s Williams joins AFC Wimbledon as Head of Sport Science

AFC Wimbledon have appointed Aston Villa's Dan Williams as their new Head of Sports Science.

Williams had been at Villa since May 2024, most recently as Lead Academy Sports Scientist for the Under-21s.

Before that he spent almost five years at Leicester City, latterly leading provision for the Youth Development Phase, with earlier internships at Tottenham and Stevenage. It is his first job in first-team football.

“I’m really excited to be joining AFC Wimbledon and to lead the sports science provision for the first-team,” Williams said.

“For me, it’s about working closely with the staff and players to create an environment that helps the players stay fit and ultimately perform at their best on the pitch.”

Director of Football Craig Cope said the League One club “ran a thorough recruitment process which saw a really high calibre of candidates apply for the role”.

He added: “Through numerous interviews and tasks we felt Dan demonstrated an excellent proficiency for his discipline as well as a real desire and commitment to Wimbledon.”
