Adam Underwood has been promoted to Sporting Director at Leeds United.
Underwood has been with the Yorkshire club since November 2014, when he joined as Academy Manager. In July 2023 he was promoted to Head of Football Operations as part of a leadership reshuffle that saw Gretar Steinsson move from Technical Director to a wider advisory role with owners 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group.
Underwood now effectively replaces Steinsson at Elland Road Underwood and will add “oversight of the recruitment department to his existing responsibilities” which include leading player trading, football operations, performance and medical management, and the Academy.
Robbie Evans had previously overseen recruitment and analytics, having joined Leeds in November 2023, but has now been promoted from Chief Strategy Officer to Managing Director. Alex Davies is the club’s Head of Recruitment.
Chairman Paraag Marathe said: “I am excited to welcome this group into their new roles as leaders of the club. These appointments are a recognition of the depth of our leadership team, our significant sporting and business achievements over the past two seasons, and our commitment to building a high-performing club led by individuals who represent Leeds United inside and out.
“I am confident they will help drive the club forward in this next chapter.”
In an interview with TGG in January 2023, Underwood spoke to TGG about his work as Academy Manager. He said: “We have, in my view, one of the strongest recruitment departments in the Premier League, particularly when it comes to youth football.
“The investment there has been substantial and sustainable and is necessary now to ensure that in our training groups we have a best with best environment – the best local players and the best recruited players.”
