Paul Trollope has left Southampton after less than six months to be reunited with Rob Edwards at Wolves.
Trollope worked with Edwards at Luton Town from 2022 to 2025. He stayed on after Edwards was sacked by the Hatters in January 2025, but then left in the summer to join Southampton as Assistant to Will Still.
Following Still’s sacking by the Saints last month, Tonda Eckert has stepped up from the Under-21s to take interim charge of the first team and has won his first three games in charge.
Trollope previously managed Bristol Rovers for five years, winning promotion to League One and reaching the EFL Trophy final, and has also held coaching roles at Birmingham, Norwich, Cardiff, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and most recently Luton.
He also worked on the Wales coaching staff when they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016. Edwards’ other Assistant at Wolves is Harry Watling, with whom he worked at Middlesbrough.
Eckert was appointed as Southampton’s U21s Head Coach in the summer, having previously been Assistant at Italian side Genoa, and is now set to get the first-team Head Coach job on a permanent basis.
He has taken four assistants with him from the U21 set-up to the first team:
- Jeremy Newton (Transition Coach).
- Ben Reeves (Over-aged U21s player).
- Ryan Flood (U21s Goalkeeper and Set Piece Coach).
- Albert Jones (U21s Coach-Analyst).
Former Saints star Adam Lallana, who has been First Team Coach since 2024/25, has been named as Interim U21s Head Coach following Eckert’s elevation.
He is working with Matthew Etherington, who has been U21s Assistant at the club since September 2024.
