Technical Director Tim Steidten is leaving West Ham after 18 months.

The German joined the Hammers in July 2023 from Bayer Leverkusen, where he was Sporting Director. However, following the arrival of Graham Potter as Head Coach – and Kyle Macaulay as Head of Recruitment – Steidten is now departing.

In a statement, West Ham said: “Tim has been instrumental in our recruitment efforts. With the arrival of our new Head Coach Graham Potter, who has brought in his own Head of Recruitment, it is time for Tim to pursue new opportunities.

“We would like to thank Tim for his dedication and hard work and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

When he was appointed, West Ham described Steidten as “one of the game’s most-admired football administrators”, who had “added experience of European football.”

They said he would be responsible for the club’s “overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department.”

Steidten developed his reputation working for Werder Bremen from 2008 from 2019, rising from youth scout to Head of Sport (Sporting Director). In June 2022, he joined Leverkusen, initially as Head of Scouting and Recruitment, before becoming Manager Sport (Sporting Director).

West Ham do have a Sporting Director in club legend Mark Noble, but he is relatively inexperienced, having gone straight into the role from playing.
