The Football Association has announced a “significant investment” in St George’s Park that will “enable England’s player’s, teams and coaches to be the best in the world.”

The redevelopment project has been called SGP 2.0 and marks the next phase for the National Football Centre, which opened in Staffordshire in 2012.

England Men’s Technical Director John McDermott said the redevelopment would “level up our capacity to deliver an elite experience for players and to give ourselves every possible chance for success.”

Three key areas have been targeted for improvement:

  • Pitches: All England team pitch surfaces to be upgraded to improve wet weather playability, with pitchside hub buildings, screens and landscaping to maximise “training effectiveness” during international camps. Performance and recovery facilities to also be upgraded.
  • Player/ coach accommodation: Modernisation of hotel bedrooms and communal spaces, plus installation of “permanent downtime activities”. Adding new features to “maximise SGP’s accessibility for elite talent.”
  • Innovation: “Inspirational learning and meeting rooms” to encourage creativity, together with “bespoke areas and technology for performance innovation” by coaches, staff and external partners.

Upgrades were made to the site in 2024, including revamped team briefing rooms and a modernisation of the Club England space within the on-site Hilton hotel, and work will continue in early 2025 and be completed in phases through to 2028.

St George’s Park is home to all the England men’s, women’s and para teams and is also used by club and national squads, as well as being a destination for leading athletes and sports teams. We held our TGG Live Conference at St George’s in 2024.

The site will be the England men’s basecamp for UEFA Euro 2028, which is being hosted across England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.

During the refurbishment period, St George’s will continue to host and support all England teams, particularly in the build-up to this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 and qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The site will also continue to be used for external bookings to cover training camps, events and conferences.
