Mladen Sormaz has left his role as Barnsley Sporting Director by mutual consent and will now serve a period of gardening leave.

His background before that was as an analytics pioneer – as Leicester City’s first Director of Analytics and then in the same role for the Miami-based private investment firm 777 Partners.

“I’d like to thank the Board for giving me the opportunity to be Barnsley FC’s first Sporting Director – it was an honour,” Sormaz said. “I’d also like to place on record thanks to (Chief Executive) Jon Flatman and the Senior Leadership Team.

“Finally, I’d like to wish the best to the fans, (Manager) Conor (Hourihane) and the staff, and the lads for the rest of the season ahead.”

Chairman Neerav Parekh added: “The Board of Directors would like to place on record our thanks to Mladen for the work he has undertaken during his time with the Club. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Sormaz was our guest on Episode #9 of the TGG Podcast and will be appearing on the Sporting Director panel at TGG Live ’25 at Old Trafford next week alongside Adam Underwood of Leeds and Lee Dykes of Brentford.
