Simon Gillett has moved across London from Chelsea to join West Ham United, as part of a developing Scouting and Recruitment department under Kyle Macaulay.

Gillett spent six years in the Scouting and Recruitment team at Stamford Bridge, where he also worked with Macaulay.

During his time at Chelsea, Gillett played a key role in the club’s triumphs in the 2021 Champions League, 2025 UEFA Conference League and  Club World Cup in 2022 and 2025 by identifying players most suited to join the squad.

In particular, he made notable contributions towards signing the likes of Moises Caicedo, Malo Gusto, Noni Madueke, Romeo Lavia, and Andrey Santos.

Before joining Chelsea, Gillett spent spent three seasons at AFC Bournemouth as a Senior Regional Scout covering France, later expanding his focus at Chelsea to include Belgium and the Netherlands before becoming a positional scout for midfielders.

He was also a professional player – starting his career at Southampton and going on to have permanent spells with Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Yeovil Town, playing more than 200 senior games as a midfielder.

Gillett is also a member of the Professional Footballers’ Association’s Players’ Board – a part-time role he has held since November 2023. He is one of three former players on the 11-person board and helps to support, protect and represent a players’ voice.

Hisshutt appointment is the latest change to the Hammers’ backroom team since Graham Potter was appointed as Head Coach in January 2025.

Potter brought in five members of staff when he arrived – Pablo Sanz as his Assistant, Oscar Caro as Head of Performance, Juan Peinado as Head of Analysis, Borja de Alba as Fitness Coach and Edu Rubio as Technical Coach.

He then appointed Macaulay as Head of Recruitment, having worked with him for almost 13 years at Ostersunds, Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea.

Then, in February, Technical Director Tim Steidten left the club after an 18-month stay.
