Norwich City have promoted Declan Rudd from their Academy to become their first-team Goalkeeper Coach.
The former Canaries goalkeeper replaces Tony Roberts, who is moving to another club.
Roberts leaves Carrow Road at the end of the week, while Rudd begins his new role straight away.
Rudd spent most of his playing career at Norwich, having come through the club’s Academy, representing them in League One, the Championship and the Premier League. However, he made most of his appearances for Preston North End, both on loan and as a permanent signing. He also spent a season on loan at Charlton Athletic.
Injury forced him to retire in 2022 and he immediately rejoined the Canaries as Lead Academy Goalkeeping Coach.
Rudd now joins new manager Philippe Clement’s backroom team and will work with goalkeepers Vladan Kovacevic, Louie Moulden and Daniel Grimshaw.
Sporting Director Ben Knapper said: “In promoting Declan to the first team, we have someone who knows the club and how we operate.
“He already has some excellent relationships with our current staff and players and absolutely deserves this opportunity – he is ready to make this step up and everyone within the first team is looking forward to working closely with him moving forwards.”
‘Appreciative of his work’
Roberts joined Norwich from AC Milan in September 2024, having previously coached at QPR, Arsenal, Swansea City, Hebei China Fortune, Birmingham City and Wolves.
The Canaries said he leaves “with everyone’s best wishes” and Knapper added: “Tony has brought infectious energy and personality to the training centre during his time with us.
“I know how highly he is valued by our goalkeepers and that they have been very appreciative of his work.”
