Biography
As part-time Education Lead on the University of Oxford’s Football on the Brain Project I have spent 3 years interviewing researchers and practitioners about the role the brain plays in the sport. This includes: neuroplasticity, skill development, sleep, adolescent brain development, early experiences, decision making, attention and focus, injury prevention and recovery, brain health, self awareness and regulation, concussion, team bonding, goal setting. I then translate this learning into resources and activities for players, coaches, practitioners and fans. The project also aims to learn from the football community on how research can support the community’s development.
I am a teacher, trainer, researcher and public engagement specialist with more than 15 years experience in secondary education and 7 years in research (adolescent mental health, wellbeing and brain development curriculum education). I am a trained mindfulness teacher and am particularly interested in the role practiced awareness through meditation can help improve skilful responding and self-regulation, and its application to improving performance in sport. I have authored various curricula, including an international wellbeing curriculum for young people.
