Chris Powell has joined Luton Town as Assistant to new Manager Jack Wilshere.
The former England coach left his role as an Interim Coach at Walsall to take up the job.
He brings a wealth of experience to work alongside Wilshere, who is the third youngest Manager in all four English divisions at the age of 33.
Powell’s first taste of management came with one game as Caretaker Manager of Leicester in 2010, before landing his first permanent job as Manager back at Charlton, where he spent most of his playing career, in January 2011. He took them back into the Championship as League One champions in 2012, but was sacked towards the end of the 2013/14 season.
He then spent 14 months in charge of Huddersfield, and in May 2016, joined Derby as Assistant Manager – having a brief spell as Caretaker Manager during his 10 months with the club. Powell then spent just over a year as Manager of Southend.
Away from management, Powell has also been a coach. As well as nearly four years as part of Gareth Southgate’s staff with England, he has also worked for Den Haag, Tottenham and Sheffield Wednesday.
Powell was a left-back for the likes of Southend, Derby, Charlton and West Ham. He also won five England caps under Sven-Goran Eriksson – making his international debut at the age of 31.
Wilshere replaces Matt Bloomfield, who left Luton along with his Assistant Manager Richard Thomas, First Team Coach Lee Harrison and First Team Analyst Ben Cirne last week.
First Team Coach Kevin Foley and Head of Goalkeeping Kevin Pilkington currently remain at the League One club.
