A number of long-serving staff are exiting Manchester United after the club concluded its latest round of redundancies.
In February, Chief Executive Omar Berrada informed staff of a fresh wave of redundancies, saying that up to 200 were set to lose their jobs, following on from 250 in the summer of 2024.
The latest process formally concluded yesterday, at the end of June. The exits are both compulsory and voluntary, with many in the latter camp posting about their exits on LinkedIn.
The latest departures include First Team Fitness Coach Paolo Gaudino (pictured above), who has been with the club since July 2012 and served under 11 Managers, both permanent and interim, starting with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Also exiting is David Harrison, the Emerging Talent Lead Scout, whose hire from Manchester City in January 2017 was regarded as a great coup by the Old Trafford club. Harrison had been Head of European Youth Scouting at City and initially joined United as their Head of Global Youth Recruitment, before becoming Emerging Talent Lead in July 2023.
Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “After eight-and-a-half unforgettable years, I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United. It has been a true privilege to work for one of the biggest clubs in world football and to have had the opportunity to lead one of the largest and most respected global recruitment departments in the game.
“I’ve learned so much and had the honour of working alongside some incredibly talented and dedicated people. I’m proud that our department helped bring in a number of players who have gone on to represent the first team – proof of the vision, hard work, and belief that’s driven us every day.
“A real career highlight was winning the FA Youth Cup in front of a record crowd of 60,000 fans, with 13 of the 18-man squad recruited by the department. Last season, the Under-18s also achieved a league and cup treble – an incredible testament to the work of everyone involved.”
Head of Safeguarding Joanna Madyarchyk is exiting after 15 years and the club are now advertising for a replacement.
Writing on LinkedIn, Madyarchyk said: “There will be time to thank so many of you who have supported me personally and professionally, but now my focus turns to supporting the club continue in exceeding in our approach to safeguarding with helping to sign the next Head of Safeguarding.”
Madyarchyk joined United in July 2010 as Children’s Safeguarding Officer before being promoted to Safeguarding Lead in 2017.
Rachel Cross, the Operations Lead for the Professional Development Phase (19s to 21s) is leaving after 29 years, having joined United in November 1996.
Writing on LinkedIn at the weekend, Cross said: “Today marks my last day at Manchester United. I have decided it is now my time to leave to try something new. Thank you all.”
Pre-Academy Manager Jarrad Ince leaves after five-and-a-half years. He joined in February 2020 as Emerging Talent Coach, before being promoted to Pre-Academy Manager in September 2022.
Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “Working at one of the most iconic clubs in world football has been a true privilege – an experience that has shaped both my personal and professional journey in meaningful ways.
Throughout my time at the club, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some truly exceptional people. I’m immensely proud of the progress we made in developing and growing the programme and I’m grateful for the trust and support of colleagues and parents alike.”
Kit Operations Manager Carl Warburton, who has been with United for almost 21 years, wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart that I have made the tough decision to leave Manchester United.
“I had the privilege throughout my career to work alongside some of the greats: players, most of whom have gone on to have unbelievable careers at United and all over the world.
“I have also worked alongside so many industry-leading, talented and dedicated staff and being able to share in some amazing experiences within the club.
“My career at Manchester United has taught me a lot and I look forward to taking my knowledge and experience into a new chapter. Now, it’s time to spend time with my family and to pursue new and exciting opportunities.”
And two members of the first-team medical staff are also exiting: Christopher Dorgu, the Osteopath who joined in July 2021, and Physio Andy Walling, who joined in September 2021.
More departures are expected to be announced in the coming weeks and TGG will keep you up to date with them.
