As TGG reported in November, Matos is bringing a trio of Assistants with him from his previous club, Maritimo:

  • Diogo Medeiros: Worked with Matos at Porto’s Academy and joined him as Assistant at Maritimo in the summer.
  • Toze Mendes: Experienced coach who has worked in China, Saudi Arabia and his native Portugal. and
  • Goncalo Ricca: Nephew of former Chelsea Manager Andre Villas-Boas. Has experience as both a coach and analyst.

Their arrivals were delayed as they waited to receive work permits, which they now have.

Club legends Leon Britton and Joe Allen will stay on as part of the new-look coaching staff, having been appointed on a short-term basis after Matos was named Head Coach on November 24th.

First Team Coach Kristian O’Leary and Head of Goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, who were part of former boss Alan Sheehan’s coaching staff, are also staying on.

Swansea Chief Executive Tom Gorringe said: ”We are very pleased to be able to confirm these appointments and provide further detail on the make-up of our football staff.

“I also want to place on record my thanks to everyone involved in helping us as we advanced through the various required processes. As stated previously, this was something that we always knew we would need to go through, and we are delighted to have added this additional support for Vitor ahead of a busy run of fixtures.

“We are also grateful for the continued support of the existing staff in Martyn Margetson and Kris O’Leary, as well as that of Joe and Leon, which has been invaluable for us as a club.”
