Leeds United’s Head of Sports Science Tom Robinson is leaving the club after 15 years.
Robinson has been in his current role for four years, having joined the club as a Sports Science Intern in October 2011, and has decided to step away from his hectic football schedule for a bit to spend more time with his family.
Leeds’ Head of Performance Chris Domogalla was full of praise for Robinson and told TGG: “Tom has supported perfectly since I arrived at the club three years ago. His opinion was always very appreciated and valued.”
The club’s Chief Executive Officer Robbie Evans paid tribute to Robinson’s huge influence at the club behind the scenes. He said that under Robinson’s leadership, the club constantly ranked as one of the Premier League’s top three teams for total distance covered together with the fewest matches missed because of injury.
Robinson’s first full-time role with the club was a Strength and Conditioning Coach in the Academy and he went on to become head of that department before joining the First Team set-up as a Sports Scientist in June 2016.
He was appointed as Head of Sports Science in June 2022.
His time at the club included huge improvements in their GPS tracking systems. He told The Athletic in 2020 that when he joined the club, GPS vests were borrowed and shared by the squad but by the time of that interview things had already got to the point where he could give players their own data as soon as they finished a training session.
