Brentford Sport Scientist Matthew King has left the club after 11 seasons, in their latest backroom change.

King joined the Bees from Exeter City in the summer of 2014, just after they had been promoted to the Championship. He spent his first season as an Intern, before being made Sport Scientist.

King’s main responsibilities at Brentford included collecting and analysing all first team GPS and physical performance data, making clips of first team training sessions and presenting the data to the coaches, staff and players.

In his three years at Exeter, he worked as Head of Academy Analysis and Assistant First Team Analyst.

Speaking about leaving the Bees, King wrote on LinkedIn: “I met some incredible people along the way, although I must reserve a special thank you to the Performance Team. Looking forward to my next challenge and what the future holds.”

Among King’s close colleagues were Head of Performance Chris Haslam and Strength and Conditioning Coach Tom Perryman, both of whom followed ex-manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur.

First Team Assistant Coach Justin Cochrane, First Team Coach Analyst Joe Newton and Head of Medical Nick Stubbings also made the journey from west to north London with Frank. Assistant First Team Coach Claus Norgaard also left Brentford following Frank’s departure.

The Bees appointed Keith Andrews as Frank’s successor and Mehmet Ali and Martin Drury have come in as his Assistant First Team Coaches, while Neil MacFarlane was promoted from his role as B team Head Coach to join them.
