Former Manchester United Under-18s Lead Adam Lawrence has been appointed as the new U21s Lead at Newcastle United and begins his role tomorrow (September 1st).
Lawrence left Manchester United at the end of last season, citing a desire to “seek a new challenge elsewhere in the game.” He had joined the Old Trafford club in January 2021 from Charlton, where was Head of Coaching, initially working as their U16s Lead before becoming U18s boss.
Under Lawrence’s stewardship, the Red Devils won the U18s Premier League and Premier League Cup in 2023/24. At Newcastle, he replaces Diarmuid O’Carroll, who left earlier this summer to become First-Team Coach at Sparta Prague.
Lawrence, 38, said: “It’s a real privilege to join Newcastle United and to lead the U21s squad at such an exciting time for the Academy. I’ve always believed in creating environments where young players can grow – not just as footballers, but as people – and that is something the Academy does very well.”
He will be assisted by Robbie Stockdale, who had been in interim charge of the U21s following the departure of O’Carroll.
