Ian Jones has joined Birmingham City in the new role of Head of Methodology and Alignment after two years with the Professional Game Academy Audit Company (PGAAC).

The Blues have been embarking on some serious staff recruitment following their promotion to the Championship, with some innovative new roles being created.

Last week we reported that Dr Jennifer Lace had been appointed to the new position of Chief of Staff at Birmingham, focusing on staff development, culture and strategy.

Jones’ responsibilities will be to implement a consistent coaching philosophy across the club, ensuring best practice across men’s, women’s and Academy.

The UEFA Pro Licence holder has worked as a coaching auditor for PGAAC for two years after six years as Head of Coaching at Burnley. It was here that he worked with Mike Rigg (then Burnley’s Technical Director, now Birmingham’s Academy Technical Director) and Lace, who was a Performance Psychologist for the Clarets.

Birmingham regained Category One Academy status earlier this summer, having been demoted under their previous owners in 2022.  Jones appeared on Episode #2 of the TGG Podcast, which was a special on Burnley’s Academy.
