The role

Celtic Football Club is seeking a Junior Data Analyst. Working under the mentorship of the Lead Data Analyst, this role will support the club’s growing data operations across our department. The role provides support in collecting, processing, and analysing football data. They will also assist with the maintenance of internal platforms, producing visualisations and reports to inform decision-making.

Key accountabilities

Will include:

Data processing & management

  • Support the maintenance and improvement of the department’s internal data platform ensuring it remains reliable, scalable, and aligned with user needs.
  • Collect, clean and organise data from multiple sources.
  • Contribute to automation of workflows to improve efficiency and consistency within the department.
  • Assist in maintaining databases architectures and processes to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Help document data processes.

Analysis & insights

  • Support the department requests
  • Assist in analytical projects that support the club’s talent identification, player development, and team performance analysis.
  • Contribute to the creation and testing of data models or metrics within existing analytical frameworks.
  • Support the statistical scouting process.
  • Produce summary tables, charts, and reports to communicate findings.

Innovation & research

  • Evaluate new data sources, models and methodologies.
  • Contribute to applied research to support the club’s long-term football strategy.
  • Keep informed about the football analytics world.

Professional Development

  • Develop technical and analytical skills under mentorship.
  • Take part in continuous learning to stay up to date with new tools, technologies, and football data methods.

Skills and experience required

Essential:

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field – or equivalent industry experience demonstrating strong analytical and computational skills.
  • Up to 1–2 years’ experience in a data analysis or data science role, ideally within a professional football or sporting context.
  • Experience supporting data processes end-to-end — from collection and integration to analysis and delivery.
  • Previous experience working with football data sources (i.e. StatsBomb, Wyscout, SkillCorner).
  • Understanding of football data types (event, tracking, and physical) and their applications.
  • Demonstrable experience in effectively building and fostering strong professional relationships.
  • Proven ability to write clear, maintainable, and efficient Python code for analytical and production workflows.
  • Ability to create, validate, and maintain data models and bespoke performance metrics.
  • Ability to write clear, structured and accurate reports.
  • Ability to build clear, engaging, and insightful data visualisation.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement improvements independently.
  • Self-motivated and able to work individually.
  • Good organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload and complete tasks within constrained time frames.
  • Able to perform well in high pressure environments and situations.
  • A proactive and inquisitive nature.

Desirable:

  • Experience working directly with first-team or academy staff in an elite football environment.
  • Knowledge of databases design.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience deploying models or dashboards via web applications.
  • Good knowledge of football.
