About the role
Newcastle United is looking for a passionate and experienced coach to join our Academy team, working directly with our Youth Development Phase (YDP) players in the full-time training model. You’ll be supporting their individual development journeys, collaborating with age group lead coaches, and helping shape the future of our young talent — all in line with the club’s coaching methodology.
In this role, you’ll be hands-on with player development plans, video analysis, and performance tracking. You’ll play a key part in delivering feedback, supporting player-parent reviews, and ensuring our programme runs smoothly and effectively. Working closely with the Head of Football Development and our interdisciplinary team, you’ll help create a best-practice environment that nurtures growth and excellence.
Your impact
We’re looking for someone with significant pitch-based coaching experience, a UEFA A Licence, and a deep understanding of youth development in the professional game. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to safeguarding and equality are essential.

Location
This role is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, with an expectation of working three days per week from the office. Please note, if you are not located in the north-east of England and are unable to relocate, we regret that we will not be able to progress your application.

Job summary
To work with and develop our YDP full-time training model players, working alongside Age Group Lead coaches in line with NUFC methodology.
Role responsibilities
- Support our Head of Football Development (HOFD) in working with our YDP full-time training model players (FTTM) and supporting age group lead coaches.
- Liaise with our HOFD and full-time training model co-ordinator in organising a best practice programme for our FTTM.
- Oversee and support the implementation of the individual development plans (IDPs) of our FTTM players.
- Create a comprehensive video library for each player, along with supplementary data to track and monitor the progress of each player.
- Liaise with Lead Coaches throughout the process to ensure the programme is effective and efficient for the players and staff.
- Assist in the delivery of individual feedback sessions.
- Support the player / parent review process, alongside age group lead coach.
- Support the HOFD in working with YDP FTTM players and supporting age group lead coaches.
- Liaise with the HOFD and full-time training model co-ordinator to organise a best practice programme for FTTM.
- Work in conjunction with the YDP multidisciplinary performance staff to ensure that all relevant data, particularly coaching time, game time and player reviews, are recorded on the Club’s chosen performance management application and easily accessible when required as stipulated in the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) regulations.
- Work within the Academy Coach Competency Framework (CCF) and review personal performance against the CCF for all aspects of the role.
- Any other reasonable duties.
Role requirements
- Perform duties with due regard to club policies and procedures and legislative requirements at all times.
- Ensure implementation of the club’s health & safety, safeguarding, welfare and equality policies to create a safe working environment for all.
- Ensure working practices are compliant with relevant legislation and data protection legislation and/or general data protection regulations (GDPR) requirements.
- Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) training and/or additional training as identified or as required.
Qualifications & training
Essential:
- UEFA A Licence coaching badge.
- FA Youth Award.
- FA Safeguarding Certificate.
- FA Basic First Aid for Sport.
Desirable:
- Advanced Youth Award.
- Degree in relevant subject, i.e. Sport.
Knowledge, skills & experience
Essential:
- Significant pitch-based coaching experience.
- Experience of working with players within the professional game.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Understanding of EPPP and the audit process.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, welfare and equality.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and Apple software packages.
- Driving Licence (preferably clean).
Desirable:
- Significant experience of coaching in a Category One academy.
- Competent in analysis software packages i.e., Sports Code.
