To support this ambition, we are looking for a Head of Data Scouting for the Sports department as soon as possible on a full-time basis (40 hours per week).
Your core responsibilities
As Head of Data Scouting you will play a key role in advancing data-based scouting at BVB. Your main tasks include:
- Leading and expanding the data scouting department in close collaboration with live/ video Scouting, sports management and IT.
- Further developing the data strategy for scouting and squad planning in close co-ordination with the sports management.
- Developing data-driven scouting models, criteria, and filters to identify suitable player profiles.
- Creating quantitative player analyses, potential assessments, and benchmarks.
- Continuous evaluation and data-based monitoring of potential transfer candidates.
- Preparing regular reports for sports decision-makers.
- Implementing data-driven tools, working methods, and analysis processes, as well as ensuring data quality and systematic documentation.
Your profile
- Several years of experience in professional football or elite sports in the field of data scouting, analytics, or data-based game analysis.
- Excellent knowledge of data modelling, statistical analysis, and relevant programming languages and tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
- Experience with relevant platforms (Impect, SkillCorner, etc).
- Deep understanding of football, game models, positional requirements, and talent development evaluation.
- University degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, or a comparable qualification.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex data in an understandable way to non-technical stakeholders.
- Structured, strategic thinking and high-quality awareness.
- High team spirit, loyalty, and integrity.
- Strong assertiveness, independence, and proactivity.
- High sense of responsibility and organisational skills.
- Confident demeanour and a high level of persuasiveness.
- Very good language skills in German or English.
