Leicester City Football Club is looking for a talented Data Analyst to join our First Team Football Staff. In this critical role, you will support decision-making across Recruitment and Performance Analysis, providing data-driven insights to enhance our team’s competitive edge.
Your work will involve developing statistical models, creating interactive data visualisations, and analysing player and team performance metrics. You will collaborate closely with our Lead Data Scientist, coaches, analysts, and recruitment staff to ensure data-driven insights shape key football decisions.
Who we're looking for
We’re seeking a data-driven football enthusiast with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will have:
- Proficiency in Python and/or R, SQL, and relational databases.
- Experience with football data sources (StatsBomb, Opta, SkillCorner, etc.).
- Strong communication skills to present insights effectively.
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with a solid understanding of football tactics and recruitment.
Previous experience in elite football is a plus.
About the club

Formed in 1884, the Club was promoted to the Premier League in 2014 when the Foxes returned to the top tier as the Championship title-winners. In 2016, Leicester City became Premier League champions. Job description
Main duties:
- Deliver data insights across Recruitment and Performance Analysis departments to inform decision-making processes.
- Develop and present interactive data visualisations and analytical tools to support football practitioners.
- Design and implement statistical models to analyse team and player performance.
- Create and refine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for team and player performance to support recruitment and match analysis.
- Assist with due diligence processes for potential player signings by providing data analysis and recommendations.
- Work closely with the Club’s Lead Data Scientist to improve best practice and advance football-related data analysis.
- Analyse transfer trends to identify successful recruitment strategies and support transfer market activities.
- Ensure alignment of team and player models across departments to promote data consistency in decision-making.
- Monitor first-team performance and provide data-driven tactical insights.
- Collaborate closely with first-team coaches, analysts and recruitment staff to ensure data-driven insights enhance decision-making.
- Stay up-to-date with cutting-edge football trends, statistical models, and data sources.

Person specification
Knowledge & Expertise
Essential experience:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or R for statistical computing and data science applications.
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, Postgres) and proficiency in SQL.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering data-driven insights and visualisations to various stakeholders.
- Knowledge and experience using established football data sources such as Opta F24/ StatsBomb/ Impect/Wyscout event data and/or tracking data.
- Evidence of working with, deriving & clearly communicating actionable insights from football data, either as a hobby or within previous employment.
- A full, clean driving license.
Desirable experience:
- Previous experience working in an elite football environment.
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Statistics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science.
- Experience with data visualisation tools like Tableau or Power BI.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
Characteristics:
- Strong understanding of football, including player roles, team tactics, and transfer market trends.
- Pro-active and structured approach to problem solving, with a drive and creativity to improve thedata-driven activities of the club.
- Strong communication skills, able to present complex data findings to stakeholders with varyingtechnical expertise.
- Highly organised, with the ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure to meet tightdeadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, with a flexible approach toworking hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Resilient and the ability to always maintain professionalism and a calm demeanour.
- Adhere and communicate the Club’s brand values to stakeholders whenever the opportunity arises.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- A commitment to continued professional development.
Role requirements
- To have a flexible approach to working hours, to respond to issues around cater for match days and other key events in Leicester City’s football calendar.
- Job location will be at Leicester City Training Ground.
- To undertake required training, including mandatory Club Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety training.
- To ensure that the Club’s Safe-guarding and Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
