Nick Irwin has taken on the newly-created role of Head of Sporting Standards and Compliance at West Ham.

Irwin, who joined the Hammers as Head of Academy Operations in October 2023, will be responsible for ensuring a ‘one-club mentality’ across the men’s Academy and all women’s teams.

This will include driving standards across the different multi-disciplinary departments within the men’s Academy and women’s teams and Irwin’s first task will be to conduct an audit. The desire to create this new role came from Board level at the London club.

Irwin joined West Ham from the Professional Game Academy Audit Company (PGAAC) and has also been Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine at West Brom and Millwall.

In his previous role, Irwin was effectively operating as assistant to Academy Manager Kenny Brown and West Ham will now decide whether to replace that position.

West Ham placed sixth in TGG’s Academy Productivity Rankings for 2023/24, up a place from the 2021/22 edition.
