Daniel Niedzkowski, who leads provision of the Pro Licence for the German Football Association (DFB), has been appointed as Fabian Hurzeler’s Assistant at Brighton.

Hurzeler, who took over as Brighton Head Coach in the summer, did his Pro Licence under Niedzkowski with the DFB.

“He will be an excellent addition to our coaching team,” Hurzeler said. “He is somebody I know very well from Germany and have been keen to bring him to the club.”

Niedzkowski will not only work as Hurzeler’s Assistant, but will also support with coach education on both the men’s and women’s sides, from the Academy up.

Technical Director David Weir explained: “He knows what it takes to get the best out of young footballers and develop them into becoming first-team players, which is something that is crucial to our own DNA.

“In his role he will also support the wider development of coach education and formulate a programme which will ensure the highest possible level of coaching from the Academy upwards, across both our men’s and women’s teams.”

Niedzkowski, 47, will join the Seagulls in January, subject to being granted a work permit.

Before joining the DFB’s coaches programme in June 2016, Niedzkowski was Assistant at Bayer Leverkusen and also managed Germany’s Under-21s.

Brighton rank third in the Premier League this season for club-trained minutes (16.1%), behind only Liverpool (17.1%) and Manchester United (22.1%). A club-trained player is one who has been with the club for at least three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21.
