Thomas Frank has been named as the new Head Coach of Tottenham and has taken a quartet of coaches with him.

Three come with him directly from Brentford:

  • Justin Cochrane (First Team Assistant Coach)
  • Chris Haslam (Head of Performance & First Team Assistant Coach)
  • Joe Newton (First Team Coach Analyst)

In addition, Andreas Georgson, who worked under Frank at Brentford in 2019/20, joins as First Team Assistant. The Swede, who appeared on Episode #37 of the TGG Podcast, left Manchester United at the end of May, after just a year.

His specialism is as a Set Piece Coach  – a role he held at United, Southampton, Arsenal and Brentford – and he will once again be focusing on that area for Tottenham. Former Head Coach Ange Postecoglou was heavily criticised for Tottenham’s vulnerability at set pieces last season.

Frank has signed a contract with Tottenham until 2028, having worked for Brentford for the last nine years (as Assistant for the first two years and then as Head Coach). During his time with the Bees, he led them up from the Championship and turned them into an established Premier League side.

Tottenham described him as “one of the most progressive and innovative Head Coaches within the game”, with “a proven track record in player and squad development.”

He has also known Tottenham Sporting Director Johan Lange for more than 20 years and shared an office with him when they worked at Danish side Lyngby.

Cochrane had been with Brentford since June 2022, as First Team Coach, and is one of the most highly-regarded English coaches. He was previously Head of Player Development and Coaching at Manchester United, England Under-17 Head Coach and is one of Thomas Tuchel’s Assistants with England.

His appointment marks a return to Tottenham, as he worked for the club from 2009 to 2018 as Assistant Head of Player Development and Coaching. In November 2022, Cochrane was our guest on Episode #45 of the TGG Podcast.

He said: “Thomas Frank is outstanding with his details. He understands how to set up a team, a training session, and he’s brilliant at getting the best out of the players. You can see that – the players are at their max each week in the Premier League.”

Haslam exits Brentford after nine years, having joined them in 2016 as Head of Academy Sport Science, before being promoted to First Team Head of Performance a year later. This was his second spell with the club, having been their Head of Conditioning from 2010 to 2014.

Newton had been an Analyst with the Bees since September 2019, when he arrived from The New Saints in Wales.

The departures are a big blow to Brentford, who pride themselves on building and developing their own backroom teams, rather than letting Head Coaches bring them in.

In addition, there have been a number of departures from the club:

  • Scott Munn (Chief Football Officer): Joined in September 2024 after four-and-a-half years as Chief Executive Officer, China, with City Football Group.
  • Mile Jedinak (Assistant): Captained Australia national team when Postecoglou was manager and joined him at Spurs in June 2023.
  • Nick Montgomery (Assistant): Had responsibility for set pieces. Had experience as a Head Coach with Central Coast Mariners and Hibernian.
  • Sergio Raimundo (Assistant): Montgomery’s Assistant at Central Coast Mariners and Hibernian. Joined Spurs in summer of 2024.
